Here are some brief notes about what has changed on our website here at First United Methodist Church, Mays Landing, NJ. Some of the dates and details are approximate.

Our Events Page changes pretty frequently. Not every little update is listed here.

2010

September

  • Assorted refreshing of pages for new service times and formats.

July - August

  • Revisions to reflect the appointment of a new pastor to our church.

2009

May

  • Various pages brought up to date in an ongoing effort to reflect current worship times and service formats.

2008

October 19

  • Added Google Maps to Driving Directions page.

September

  • Various pages brought up to date, especially to reflect changes to service times.

2007

August 20

  • Added external links to sponsored BSA Scout Troop and Cub Pack.

March 11

  • Several pages updated to reflect new standard service times.

January 24

  • Tweaks to improve Local Search visibility: Added Google Maps to Directions page. Added address and phone number to all pages.

2006

December 2

  • Correction and cleanup of Contact page phone info.

November 6

  • Changed Contact page phone numbers for new church office.
  • Minor revisions plus editorial cleanup of our Abuse Prevention Policy (Safe Sanctuaries).

January 16

  • Fixed broken links to gallery by reverting to single-page gallery.
  • Changes for a new email address for the pastor.
  • Added pastor to Contact Form (mailform) page.

2005

August 7

  • Removed broken links relating to graphical calendar.

March 28

  • Removal of special service info from Lent and Easter.

Late February / Early March

  • Bit by bit, details of our new Saturday evening Praise and Worship Service are added as the service begins and takes shape.

February 20

  • A major portion of our site is revived following the loss of last November. Even though a couple pieces still need work, it sure feels good to be back!

2004

December 7

  • Temporary accommodations are implemented to get our site back online. Content is dropped back to a single page.

November 16

  • The server on which our website is being hosted is taken offline (for reasons which are neither our fault nor under our control). Our existing website becomes completely unavailable, even for site administration purposes. Whoa -- bummer!

October 11

  • Various pages brought up to date to reflect changes occurring as a result of completed construction to our Education and Outreach Building.
  • Rewrote home page in narrative style with links to inner pages.
  • Added new page which highlights opportunities to serve.

July 26

  • Updated privacy statement to include historical info.
  • Added some new pages (Pastoral History, Historical Potpourri, Rev. Matthews Biography Excerpt) under our history page.
  • Added 8 a.m. order of service.

June 12

  • Several new pages and related features came together at the same time. Published:
    • Pages introducing Safe Sanctuary program and our draft policy.
    • Staff page for info on key people.
    • Page oriented toward first-time visitors.
    • Website privacy statement.
    • Website accessibility statement.
  • New gallery software package was installed to replace single galley page.
  • Added TABINDEX attributes to page elements on email and contact pages.
  • Added in-page link on all pages to skip over main navigation menu.
  • Added access keys to all pages as part of the page footer.

May 15

  • Added Safe Sanctuary paragraph to Ministries page.
  • More site cleanup, mostly accessibility related: Added acronym markup to "NJ" on all pages opening paragraphs. Added icon to external links. Minor cleanup of title and footer on all pages.

May 8

  • Review and cleanup site for accessibility. Added TABINDEX attributes to the main menu. Reviewed acronyms, and standardized formatting of times. Did some markup (HTML/CSS) revisions across the entire site.

April 24

  • Changed main navigation menu to rollover style. Also some style sheet cleanup and related page re-DIV-ision.
  • Added new page background image.

April 19

  • Added Driving Directions page.
  • Installed graphical calendar.

April 12

  • Added Atlantic County map to Directions page.
  • Added Contact Form page (formmail).
  • Added separate "Email Us" information page designed for spam protection.
  • Removed Lent and Easter related items from various pages.

April 6

  • Changed our bookmark icon to use the Cross and Flame. If you had bookmarked our site before this date, you may want to update your bookmarks to pick up the new icon. (Our thanks to the UMC for agreeing to the use of the Cross and Flame for our site icon!)

April 4

  • Added this page (What's New!).
  • Events page - added regular meeting times.
  • Added GPS coordinates to Directions page.

March 29

  • Published page on Missions and Ministries.
  • Added public transportation info to Directions.
  • Contact email changed to use spam-reducing images.
  • Added a Site Map.

March 22

  • Reorganized site layout "depth" by enhancing menu and style sheets for second-level navigation.
  • Added new page to show Order of Service.
  • Links to MapQuest and Yahoo! Maps were improved to immediately target our street address.
  • Contact page - added Visit Us section, fax number, and direct mail-to links for key contacts.

March 13

  • Services page - still more detail added.
  • Added maps of mid-Atlantic area and downtown Mays Landing to Directions page; and enhanced some of the descriptive info.
  • Added sub-page to Events for Lenten Lunch Menus.

March 9

  • Services page - added brief description of service formats plus a (temporary) note about this coming Easter.
  • Published Gallery page with three exterior photos of our buildings.
  • Added History page.
  • Added 'Welcome' section to Website Info page; also a short blurb about the webmaster.

February 28

  • Some behind-the-scenes work included beefing up HTML header meta-content, including adding a favicon.
  • Reworked Home page for better layout (photo moved from right to left).
  • Email addresses added to Contact page.

February 23

  • Added photo to Home page.
  • Added Events page.

Late February
Work had begun as far back as January on a small collection of pages. Once the site was launched, these pages, complete with style sheets, were quickly posted:

  • Updated Home page (but still no picture).
  • Services page.
  • Directions page - very brief and no maps.
  • Contact page - with only address and phone.
  • Site Info page - with design style, feedback, copyright.
  • Style sheets providing color, layout, and logo.
