At First United Methodist Church, Mays Landing, NJ, our mission is to proclaim the Good News, live according to the example of Jesus Christ, and devote our lives to the service of God, making disciples of all persons to the end that the Kingdom of God may come upon the Earth.

In order to carry out our mission of disciple-making, we have committed ourselves to the ministries outlined on this page. We also have a page to help guide those who wish to concentrate on the areas of greatest opportunity for service.

Sunday School

We have age-grouped classes for everyone from age 3 up through adult. Our curriculum is Christ centered, with the purpose to reach out with the Good News of Jesus Christ in a fun and creative way. An annual Christmas program presented by the Sunday School is one of our many much-anticipated events.

Vacation Bible School

Every summer we celebrate a time with the children of our local communities. Our program runs for a full week. Each VBS includes a local mission project to people in our area.

Bible Study

Long term studies such as "Disciple" and "Witness", along with short term studies during Lent, Advent, and the summer are offered on an ongoing basis. There is an avenue for everyone to be drawn into the Word and into a closer walk with Jesus Christ through Bible study.

Nursery Ministry

Brightly decorated and staffed by volunteers, our nursery is a crucial part of our program ministry to Jesus' littlest disciples.

Main Street Pantry

In cooperation with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, we provide an outreach ministry to the hungry in our area. Through the gracious giving of our church family, area businesses and civic organizations, we provide a much needed helping hand to those in need. The food pantry is open each Wednesday during the hours of 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Fellowship Sunday

On the third Sunday of each month a special time is specifically set aside, during which refreshments are served and members of the congregation join in lively interaction.

United Methodist Women

During the year the women of our church are busy with a number of activities, such as Lenten Lunches and their Mother Daughter Dinner. The women meet once each month for Bible study, devotions and fellowship.

Spiritual Teen OutReach Ministry

Activities of our high school and junior-high youth group include fund raising for mission, 30-Hour Famine, fellowship nights, retreats, and special service projects.

Scouting Sponsorship

Our church is proud to charter the Boy Scouts of America Troop 254 and Pack 254 (External Link) . We also provide accommodations for local Girl Scout groups.

Safe Sanctuary

We want our church to provide an environment that protects our youth from any potential abuse. To this end, our church has implemented a policy under the Safe Sanctuaries program.

Music

We enjoy the opportunity to praise God with various musical programs. We have a praise team which provides worship in the form of hymns, choral anthems, and contemporary praise songs. Selections are accompanied by piano, guitars, and other instruments.

Special Events

Church picnics, special outings, children's programs, and pork and chicken barbecue dinners are also a part of our life here at First United Methodist Church.

Growth for the Future

We are very excited about the construction of our new Education and Outreach Building (located directly behind the church). We are delighted to finally be able to occupy our new new classrooms. With new classrooms and additional space to offer various civic groups, we will enhance our witness in the community. And that is just the beginning! We plan on finishing the second phase with additional classrooms, and reconfigure the building to house a church office and a coffee house ministry for young adults. Other possibilities are yet to be placed upon our hearts.

Sound exciting? It is! First United Methodist Church is pleased to be a growing church family where growth is not measured in numbers alone, but in our growing love for God and neighbor!
